CAILLEACH

Born of this land and its mythology

The “Cailleach” was known to our ancestors as “The Hooded One”, or the “Old Woman Hag. Goddess of the cold and winter, she is responsible for the creation of the landscape and our weather. When she goes out picking up sticks on the 1st of February, the more she picks up, the longer the winter is going to be in that year. The Cailleach can also be seen through her shape shifting lens. After winter comes spring, after rain comes the sun. This beautiful costume brings a piece of this land's mythology and nature into peoples lives through a gentle invitation to the awe still surrounding us in this world. The Cailleach may be an old hag, but she is able to ride storms and leap across mountains.
